Started working on it again.  Built a chassis jig for it, and have made the decision to run rear mounted engine.  Over the weekend I moved the motor to the rear in the rough location of where I want it, and also mocked up the tranny/tcase with adapter to get an idea on length/width.  The rear flat bed had to go, got it chopped up and off to the scrapers.  On the tranny/tcase, I was debating on having a custom shorter tranny mainshaft made so I could shorten the adapter 8-9", but then though against it, as if i break it, thats an of the shelf (and relatively cheap) part, so it stays as is (and yes, the tcase is flipped on the wrong side).

I got thinking what link set up are you doing on this thing? Radius arm or 4 link?

4 link in the rear (warthog style), but I've been back and forth on the front.  I'm going to read through some tech rules of a bunch of different places and see what they say about full hydraulic steering, but it's still wide open really.  Any interesting ideas?

Not trying to be rude or anything just very curious. What all goes into building rear engin setups?

Weight distribution, just because :D.

If starting from scratch it's no different then building a front engine rig, make sure you have a way to get the diff's spinning the right direction, and that's really the biggest difference.

and watch the oil pickup. We ran my first motor dry.

Benefits are better traction

easier on the front end parts

distributes the weight better to the four corners making it better in the mud, muskeg and sand.

you can hit water or mud as fast as you want and never drown the motor

                    because it's cool

as for the link set up I was just curious because I learned a ton from the warthog and know what I would change to have made the thing insane  er.  Just some tricks for rear engine suspension manipulation.

Bump. Finally got the axles 75% complete, enough to where I can toss them under the truck and starting building.

Plan is to set the chassis on the jig permantly, set the wheelbase (looking at 140-144" range), and start working with the frame.

The picture is close to full bump (I need to take out the body lift off the cab and lift everything up to make up for that), bottom of cab is at 27-30" at full bump to the ground, frame is 24-27" at full bump, and plus 10" at ride height. This is with a 12.4-24 (46" tall tire) tire. Top of roof at ride ride is at 7.5' to 7.75' with the tires on, which is good because it'll fit under the garage door in race trim lol.

This brings us up to date. Basic frame shape is done.  Next step is to tie off the top of the cradle X with a horizontal bar, and the tack in a bunch of tig filler to mark all the frame rail gussets and crosmembers, then build link mounts.

Decided to go with a drop box, finished picture is not mine, but similar to what I'll be getting with something new to the drop box world.

Made the decision in the new year to run dual toilets and switch to E98 as well (cheaper fuel better cooling too).  Bolted both throttle bodies up to the intake to get an idea of what I'm working with.  Vroom Vroom.
